In 1976 Tony Hill set up the consulting engineering practice of A. K. Hill and Associates. Initially the practice undertook the design of multi storey buildings, power plants and bridges in West Africa and the Middle East together with a variety of work in the UK. The name of the practice was changed to Construction Design Partnership in 1995 when Gary Holt joined the practice in 1988.
The practice has since been involved in major multi-storey housing, road and drainage design, design of industrial buildings and refurbishment of listed buildings. The practice became involved in façade engineering in 1987 providing the structural engineering design input for major curtain walling projects for a variety of clients.

Extensive Site Experience
Both directors have had extensive site experience as well as design experience. The directors consider that this is important since it leads to a more practical approach to design encompassing the consideration of how the structure may be built.
The practice has been privileged to have had the opportunity to be involved in innovative design and execution of works and as a result the practice has led the way in several aspects of construction and material handling and has been involved in several unusual research projects. The opportunity presented since 1986 to carry out the design of numerous structures in aluminium has led to the practice developing a considerable and unusual expertise in this material.
