Thinking about a loft conversion?
A loft conversion is an easy way to add some extra space to your house without having to look for a new home!
To build a loft conversion you need a minimum height of 2.2m – if you have a house that is pre 1930 you may find you are unable to convert your loft as Victorian built homes loft space were built a lot lower than newer builds. With an older house you also need to be aware of obstacles such as Chimney stacks and water tanks which could hinder your loft conversion plans.
You will need to find out what type of roof you have, which you can do yourself. If you have rafters they run along the edge of the roof and will leave most of the triangular space below hollow. If you have trusses, they are supports that run through the cross-section of the loft. Although converting a roof with trusses is possible it will need extra structural support to replace them so will most likely be more costly.
What type of loft conversion should you get?
There are a few different types of loft conversion, take some time to consider what you want based on your budget and ideal use of space. Your builder and architect can help you with this process.
